Opening Ceremony
formal event

"Welcome speech by Mr. John Deady (Irish ambassador) and Dr. Tivadar Puskás (mayor of Szombathely). They both summarized the past 18 years, the years since which Bloomsday has been alive. After the opening, our mayor symbolically did the first tapping of Irish beer."(Nyugat.hu)

After receiving László Najmányi's horror-novel, The Mystery of the Blum-House (published in 2007) (…) and after sitting down at the terrace, the opening started, along with good, little Irish melodies. The Rua band announced Edina Novák (spokeswoman for Agora) with a song, who greeted the audience and then gave the floor to the ambassador and his interpreter. Mr. John Deady is a returning guest in our city because of this event, and as he said, they are very grateful that they have kept this very important tradition alive for them for so many years. He praised the writer (Joyce), the significance of the work (Ulysses), and pointed out a fact that made the relationship between the Hungarian and Irish people much closer than we thought."
